Throughout the three movements, SOJOURN describes a spiritual journey. Beginning with a pompous "March," continuing through a "Meditation," a prayer through adversity, featuring an extended solo for alto saxophone. The piece ends with a "Metamorphosis," the change into something new. Themes that occur in the first two movements are transformed into new material in the final movement.
